GASC Officer Elections
GASC elections will be held at the annual convention, February 16-18, to fill the following Executive Board Offices for a term of one year:
President School Secretary School
Vice President School Journal School
Qualifications to Run for Office
To qualify to run for an Executive Board Office, your student council must have:
1. Had an organized council for 2 years
2. Been a member of GASC during the previous year
Procedures for Running for Office
Present one letter each to both the GASC Parliamentarian (Lanier County HS) and the Executive Director (Kirsten Baker). The letter should indicate the school’s ability and willingness to fulfill the obligations of the office it wants to hold (see below). Letters must contain the signature of the candidate school’s principal and student council advisor. It must be presented three weeks prior to the opening date of convention (i.e., postmarkedby Saturday, January 27th). The GASC Parliamentarian will notify candidate schools by telephone or email by Friday, February 3rd, that the letter has been received.

Elected Officer School Responsibilities
President School Responsibilities
§ Serve as conference host
§ Preside at general sessions
§ Select theme/prepare convention t-shirt
§ Select discussion groups and topic presenter
§ Arrange for speakers at general sessions
§ Propose state projects
§ Develop/distribute convention program
§ Serve as convention chair: provide convention material, copies of convention rules, individual delegate packets including information such as name badges and housing information.

GASC Candidate Campaigning(All elected offices)
Informal One-on-one campaigning is encouraged at all times during the conference. § Campaigning should be in good taste and contain no demeaning or vulgar comments. § No pre-pasted stickers or decals allowed, no duct tape or glue may be used to hang signs, no clear tape allowed on windows, and no campaign material may cover up convention signs or other campaign signs. § No food or other giveaways with the intent of soliciting votes allowed. § A candidate school may begin campaigning when it receives notification of qualification for office from the Parliamentarian.
Formal Each candidate will be allowed an opportunity to present a one-minute introduction in the form of a skit in the “Meet the Candidate” session during the second general assembly.
· Props will be allowed at this time.
· If positions are opposed, during the Political Rally, each candidate school will answer
o Two questions for each school
o The questions will be drawn at random from a hat
o The topics will involve leadership.
o Each school will get two minutes to answer each question for a total of four minutes for two questions.
GASC Appointed Office (Parliamentarian)
The GASC Parliamentarian is an appointed office. The GASC Executive Board will appoint the Parliamentarian school at its first meeting.

To qualify to run for an Executive Board Office, your student council must have:

Mail one letter to the Executive Director (Kirsten Baker). The letter should indicate the school’s ability and willingness to fulfill the obligations of the office of Parliamentarian. The letter must contain the signature of the candidate school’s principal and student council advisor. It must be postmarked by 10 days after the close of the GASC convention {by Wednesday, March 2nd}. The Executive Director will nominate one school for approval by the Executive Committee at its first meeting.

- Promote public relations for GASC throughout the state
- Coordinate annual membership drive
- Secure proclamation from Governor of Georgia for “Student Council Week”
- Promote, coordinate, and select judges for the annual awards competition.
Secretary School Responsibilities
- Record and distribute minutes.
Journal School Responsibilities
- Publish and distribute to member schools at least two newsletters annually
- Publish and distribute convention report
- Provide convention evaluation forms
- Maintain the GASC website

Parliamentarian School Responsibilities
- Speak on behalf of the Executive Committee in questions concerning parliamentary procedure
- Notify all member schools of proposed constitutional amendments
- Notify all member schools about qualifications and procedures related to running for state office
- Act as sergeant-at-arms during elections
- Select three delegates as tally clerks and one advisor as tally supervisor from schools in attendance and not running for office
- Arrange for the Speech Contest at the convention.
